🧳 Experience the harmony of tradition and comfort during your stay in Kyoto
Thank you very much for choosing to stay at our traditional Kyoto townhouse (machiya) guesthouse.
This property is a rare opportunity to experience authentic Japanese architectural charm blended with modern comfort.
This “Stay Guide” outlines important information to help ensure your time here is comfortable, safe, and memorable.
Please take a few minutes to read through the contents below.
🧊 1. Refrigerator Use
Please place food items in the tray labeled with your room number or attach a label with your name clearly written.
Feel free to enjoy the complimentary drink corner: water, coffee, matcha, soups, etc. ☕🍵🥣
Paid items (cup noodles, beer, rice, etc.) are available — please place the appropriate amount into the "Offertory Box" payment box (賽銭箱) 📿💰
All prices include tax.
🍳 2. Kitchen Usage & Mealtime Rules
Kitchen utensils are stored in the cabinets below the counter🔪🍲
After use, kindly wash and return them to their original place.
As the kitchen is shared, we ask guests to be considerate and take turns using it ⌛
Please use the shared dining tables in the free space for meals. Cooking is one of the joys of traveling!
🚿 3. Toilets & Showers
We have two Western-style toilets 🚽 — please flush toilet paper down the toilet.
🚹 Gentlemen, we kindly ask that you sit while using the toilet for hygiene reasons.
There are two shower areas: 🚿 a standard shower room and 🛁 a bath/shower room.
Please share these spaces considerately with other guests.
To ensure safety, do not adjust any settings other than water temperature ⚠️
🧺 4. Laundry & Towels
- Wash only: ¥200
- Wash + Dry: ¥500 👕👖
Towels are available from the shelves — after use, please return them to the designated basket.
🌱 For guests staying multiple nights, we kindly ask for your help in reusing towels to reduce environmental impact.
🚭 5. Smoking & Quiet Hours
Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the building 🚭
You may smoke only on the wood deck outside 🌳
The machiya’s earthen walls allow excellent ventilation but offer limited sound insulation.
We kindly ask guests to be mindful of voices and noise, especially at night.
Severe violations (e.g., indoor smoking or intentional damage) may result in a fine of up to ¥50,000 ⚠️
Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM 🕙🌙 — thank you for helping create a restful environment for all guests.
💡 6. Energy Saving & Safety
Kyoto machiya homes are designed to capture natural light — making mornings bright and pleasant 🌞
However, if early daylight disturbs your sleep, window shutters (amado) can be closed to darken the room.
⚠️ Please contact staff if you wish to close the shutters, as improper handling may cause injury or noise complaintsfrom neighbors.
We appreciate your cooperation in using indoor lighting only as needed 💡
Always lock the door when leaving the building 🔒 — we recommend saving your lock code by taking a 📸 photo on your phone.
⚠️ Please be careful on the steep stairs, a distinctive feature of traditional Kyoto architecture.
